What your pre-operative evaluation includes
What a surgeon or anesthesiologist typically asks for before a procedure. The evaluation, EKG and labs happen at your visit. The letter follows once your results are in.
- Pre-operative evaluation with a physicianHistory, physical examination, and a review of your medications, your other conditions, and the procedure you are scheduled for.
- 12-lead electrocardiogram (EKG)Performed in our office at the visit and read by your physician.
- Six laboratory testsUrinalysis, hemoglobin A1c, CBC with differential, comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP), PT and PTT, drawn at the visit and run by our reference laboratory. Additional laboratory studies can be performed at the request of your surgical team.
- Optimization before your dateIf we find something that could affect how your surgery goes, such as blood pressure, blood sugar, or a medication that needs adjusting, we work on it with you before the date.
- Written optimization letter with a risk scoreThe evaluation, your results, your perioperative risk score, and your physician's recommendations, sent to the surgeon or facility you name.

How it works
- Book and complete your intakePick a visit time from the live calendar and pay the $450 online, then fill out your intake forms in the patient portal. If you call and we book the visit for you, you pay at the clinic.
- Your visitExam, medication review, EKG, and your labs drawn, at our Miami Beach clinic.
- Your surgeon gets the letterWhen your results are in, your physician writes the optimization letter with a risk score and sends it to the surgeon or facility you named.
What to bring
- A government-issued photo ID
- A current list of your medications and doses, including supplements
- The name and contact number of the surgeon requesting the evaluation
- The written order from your surgeon's office. Your surgeon can send it ahead by fax to (888) 318-3956 or by email to preop@care.mynomadhealth.com.
Timing. Most surgeons want the evaluation completed within 30 days before surgery. Check the date your surgeon needs it by and book accordingly. If your surgery is sooner than the times you see, call us at (305) 680-0566 to discuss your options.
Medicare. Nomad Health is not enrolled with Medicare and does not book Medicare recipients for this service. If you are covered by Medicare, please ask your surgeon's office to arrange your evaluation through a Medicare-participating provider.

Her career includes emergency and surgical posts in Ireland's Royal College of Surgeons teaching-hospital network, directing fleet-wide medical operations for a major cruise line, and urgent care, occupational medicine, and telemedicine practice across Florida. Pre-operative evaluation draws on exactly that background: recognizing the heart, lung, blood sugar, and medication issues that matter before anesthesia and surgery.

What is pre-op clearance?
Pre-op clearance, also called surgical clearance, is what a surgeon asks for before a scheduled surgery: a pre-operative medical evaluation by a physician. At Nomad Health that evaluation covers your health history and medications, a physical examination, an EKG and labs. We work on anything that could affect how you do with anesthesia and surgery, and we send your surgeon a written optimization letter with a risk score. Whether your surgery goes ahead is always your surgeon's call.
How much does it cost?
$450 flat for one patient and one procedure. That covers the physician visit, the EKG, six laboratory tests, and the written optimization letter to your surgeon. There is no membership fee and no insurance billing. You pay online when you book. If you call and we book the visit for you, you pay at the clinic. You can cancel any time before the visit for a full refund. After the visit the fee is not refundable. You are paying for the evaluation, the testing, and the report, not for a particular result.
Do I need to be a member or have insurance?
No. This is a single service open to anyone. You do not need a membership, it does not make Nomad Health your primary care provider, and it does not stop you from joining later. We do not bill insurance. Nomad Health is not enrolled with Medicare and does not book Medicare recipients for this service.

What does my surgeon receive?
Once your EKG and lab results are in, your physician writes an optimization letter and sends it to the surgeon or surgical facility you named at your visit. The letter includes the evaluation, your results, a perioperative risk score, and the physician's recommendations. Nomad Health does not issue clearance itself. The decision to proceed with surgery belongs to your surgeon and anesthesia team. Our job is to find anything that could affect how you do, improve it where we can, and tell your surgeon what we found.
